Why did i stop losing weight on my low calorie diet?
We’ve all been through this at least once in our lives. You start a new diet and the weight just seems to fall off with little to no effort at all. You don't feel hungry and you manage to ignore all your junk food cravings, practicing very good self control.
But then out of nowhere a week goes by and you haven’t lost an ounce, you may have even gained a little weight. What is going on you think to yourself. How could I not be losing weight when im following my diet perfectly and eating such a low amount of calories?

So you’re most likely dieting the wrong way, even though you're following it correclty, which has now caused your body to enter metabolic adaptation. This happens when your metabolism slows down and stops burning calories to make up for the lower calories you're consuming.
This leaves you stuck at your current weight even if you are still dieting and in a caloric deficit. This happens to most people because the common misconception is that all you have to do is eat a very small amount of calories and do a ton of cardio then eventually you will end up at your desired weight and have that perfect body.
This is the furthest thing from the truth though, and this will only leave you stuck and feeling frustrated, wanting to give up and go back to your normal life. This leaves you feeling that losing weight and getting the body you desire is just too hard and will take too much time and energy, energy that you don’t have. You’ll think “what’s the point of losing weight if I don’t have a life anymore?”
But it doesn’t have to be that way if you just had the proper knowledge on how to lose weight the correct way so that you get consistent results and can keep it off permanently. Well, that is what I'm going to teach you today. It’s actually a lot easier to lose weight than most people think but they end up doing all the wrong things because they believe it can’t possibly be that easy.

What if I told you it was that easy. And if you only had the right information on how to do it, you could get amazing results with the least amount of effort so you didn’t have to spend your entire life trying to lose weight. Well that’s the truth and if you follow what i’m about to tell you and stick to it you will achieve the results you’ve always wanted.
So the first thing that causes most people to get stuck when trying to lose weight is actually eating too little in the beginning of the diet. When you do this your body adapts to the small amount of calories you’re consuming and you end up stuck. The further you decrease the calories the worse it becomes until you get to the point where you cannot continue any longer. So you stop, but now your metabolism is so slow that all the weight comes back, and much faster than you lost it, sometimes even more than when you started.
This is called the rubber band effect or rebound weight gain. It happens because your body isn’t burning enough calories anymore to sustain that weight at the amount of calories that you need to maintain it. So your body is burning way less calories than it really should be burning. This is called a broken metabolism. It means that your body isn’t burning the proper amount of calories that it should at your current weight. This causes you to be stuck because even if you go on a diet all that will do at this point is maintain your current weight. So you go on a diet just to not gain anymore weight and you don’t lose any either.
This is the main reason why a lot of people can’t lose weight even when they are dieting and eating a small amount of calories. Also, if you stop the diet you end up gaining even more weight. So you get stuck in the vicious cycle of dieting and not losing weight then stopping and gaining more weight. This can be extremely frustrating to be stuck in. You may even think that you will be stuck here for the rest of your life, never being able to lose weight again and achieving the body of your dreams.

Luckily this isn’t true and there is a way to fix your broken metabolism and get your body losing weight again the correct way. What you need to do is restore your metabolism and get it burning lots of calories again so you can make your weight loss as easy as possible. You accomplish this by first finding out what your maintenance calories are using a fitness tracker or calorie calculator. Then you’re going to eat that many calories for about a month to get your metabolism back up to where it should be. You may even gain some weight in the process but it’s only going to get worse for a little bit until it begins to get better.
After about a month you can then cut your calories down slightly so you can begin to lose weight. Never more than 500 calories in the beginning. Also you never want to eat the same amount of calories a day when doing this because it will just cause another plateau. So be sure to eat more calories some days and less on others to keep it changing. You can try something called carb cycling. This is when you alternate between high carb and low carb days. This is probably the best way to achieve this because you are still able to eat the same amount of protein every single day, which your body is going to need in order to recover from your workouts.
After a few months if you are seeing good progress and you want to speed up the results you can then cut your calories down a little more. A maximum of 1000 calories. You never want to be more than that or you won’t get the proper nutrition you need for your muscles to recover from the workouts you are doing and it will end up backfiring causing your metabolism to slow down again. Muscle is very important when it comes to having a strong metabolism because they burn up a lot of calories just to maintain and not fade away.

Actually, when most people lose weight really fast by starving themselves and doing a lot of cardio, most of the weight loss they see is really just lost muscle. This happens because your body goes into something called starvation mode which is really just your body’s own natural energy saver mode, just like your smartphone. It gets rid of the excess muscle since your not eating the calories anymore to sustain the muscle and your body wants to save calories.
So the best way to do that is getting rid of the thing that uses the most of it. And that would be muscle. Then after you lose all the weight you are left with mostly fat and no muscle, something you can call being skinny fat. So never eat less than 1000 calories under your maintenance calories if you want to be able to keep the weight off permanently.

And that leaves me with my final piece of advice when trying to lose weight. You never want to do only cardio because when you do that you end up burning up a lot of your muscle as well. If you are in a major caloric deficit and only doing cardio, your body wants to get rid of as much muscle as possible in order to sustain itself and have enough energy to sustain itself. So basically your body is feeding on your muscles in order to provide the energy it needs to perform all the cardio. This leaves you with less muscle and a slower metabolism, causing you to enter a weight loss plateau and not be able to keep the weight off after you lose it.

So make sure you are following a proper strength training routine when losing weight. It’s actually the most important part of the puzzle. Without it you will never be able to sculpt your body and tone up or keep the weight off after you lose it. You don’t want to put in all that effort and time for nothing now do you?
